Swim Teams Open VOL Action With Pair Of Opponents

On Tuesday, March 14 the Oakdale swim team hosted Manteca and Weston Ranch in their opening meet of the Valley Oak League season. Oakdale’s varsity boys defeated Weston Ranch 129-20 but fell to Manteca 130-70. In Lady Mustang action, Oakdale made a strong statement defeating Weston Ranch 136-31 and Manteca 124-46.

Caden Nord took first place in the boys 200 yard IM with a time of 2:10.69 and also took top honors in the 100 yard IM at 51.18. Nord was also on the 200 yard freestyle relay along with teammates Jackson Metcalfe, Cole Liekhus and Zach Hill. Metcalfe finished second in the 200 yard freestyle at 2:02.95 and Spencer Ruthman placed third in the 500 freestyle at 7:43.05.

For the girls, it was Madison Blanc who placed first in the competitive 100 yard breaststroke event. Blanc edged out teammate Juliette Leibebson by less than a second and third place finisher Natalie Thompson came in third just three seconds back of Blanc. Blanc also helped Oakdale take first place in the 200 yard medley relay along with teammates Kassidy Houck, Daytona McGinnis and Emily Bennett. Bennett took first place in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 27.23, one full second ahead of fellow Lady Mustang Jensen Perry. Kayla Peterson placed first in the 200 yard freestyle event for Oakdale with a time of 2:21.99. Houck placed first in the 200 yard IM as she swam her way to a 2:33.46 finish. Rounding out the day for Oakdale was Daytona McGinnis who took first place in the 100 yard butterfly event at 1:06.24 and teammate Clare McKeon placed second at 1:08.16.

The swim team will be in action on Thursday, March 23 at Atwater for non-league action. The swim meet is scheduled for 3 p.m.
