Oakdale High School spring sports were expected to get under way this past week, but Mother Nature had other ideas.

Friday, Feb. 28 was supposed to be an action packed day for the Mustangs and their fans. Instead, it was a gloomy day that included heavy spring showers in the afternoon, forcing the schools to call off the games. Oakdale baseball, tennis and ladies soccer all fell victim to Mother Nature’s wrath.

Oakdale baseball was scheduled for a home game against Lincoln of Stockton at 3:30 p.m. but the school announced its cancellation at 1:15 pm. No make-up date has been announced for this game. The Mustangs hope to return to action Thursday, March 6 to participate in a tournament to be held at Turlock’s Pedretti Park.

The Mustang tennis team was getting set to travel to Stockton to take on the Trojans from Lincoln before its match was cancelled at 1:15 p.m. on Friday afternoon as well. Coach Grant Miller said no make-up day has been announced but the squad was set for a home match against Sierra on Tuesday, March 4 (after press time for The Leader) and will be on the court in Manteca as they square off against the East Union Lancers with a start time of 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, March 6.

Friday’s storm also kept the Lady Mustangs soccer team from participating in the Pitman High School Tournament in Turlock, with games originally scheduled for both Friday and Saturday. They will have a busy week (weather permitting) upcoming with matches set on the road against Gregori on Tuesday, March 4 (after press time), Tracy on Wednesday, March 5 at 4:30 p.m. for varsity and a 3 p.m. start for the JV team and a weekend tournament in Manteca with times to be determined.

If the weather cooperates this week, Oakdale High School will also see the Mustang golfers hosting the Sierra Timberwolves of Manteca on Tuesday, March 4 (after press time) and the East Union Lancers of Manteca on Thursday, March 6 with a start time of 2:45 p.m. Both games will be held at Oakdale Golf and Country Club. The Lady Mustangs softball team will take the field on March 5 for a home game against Central Catholic of Modesto with a start time of 3:30 p.m. Saturday the Mustangs hit the pool as its swim team will host their March Madness swim meet at 9 a.m.

The track team is hoping that the weather doesn’t disrupt their home meet as they welcome Escalon on Thursday, March 6 with a 3 p.m. start time.
