The Oakdale High School boys golf team continues to roll. Oakdale is now 13-0 in Valley Oak League action this season. The latest victim to fall to the Mustangs was Weston Ranch. In 18-hole action the Mustangs took care of the Cougars at Oakdale Golf and Country Club.
In front nine action, David Myrtakis and Ryan Meyer each shot 36 on the day. Not far behind the leaders were Calvin Reed (42) and Tristan Jaramillo (44). Max Moore rounded out the day with a 49. On the back nine, Meyer shot a team-leading 41 for the Mustangs. Reed and Jaramillo each shot 44 with Myrtakis (45) and Moore (47) completing the day.
“It is not often a team can say they are 13-0 in Valley Oak League competition. The team has worked hard to be able to be in this place,” head coach Lee McGhee said. “Many hours spent by the whole team go in to the actual playing of our matches. From practice time with the team to working hard on their own, our guys have done exceptionally well this season.”
Oakdale looks to continue their dominance when they wrap up the regular season on Thursday, April 26 at Lathrop with tee time set for 3 p.m. Following that match, Oakdale turns its attention to the Valley Oak League Tournament being held on Tuesday, May 1. This year Diablo Grande Golf Course in Patterson will be the host sight and tee time is scheduled for 9 a.m.
“We can continue to work hard and give ourselves a chance to keep competing against the best players in our league, section, Northern California and the whole state and see how long we can keep playing,” McGhee said.
In two weeks Oakdale will take part in the Division III Tournament, scheduled for Monday, May 7.
“That is when things get super competitive,” McGhee shared. “Our Division has some really talented teams playing this season. So we go from eight teams competing in the VOL to the first round of the playoffs which takes the top teams from three leagues.”
