Oakdale Volleyball Rallies To Big Wins

Oakdale High’s varsity and junior varsity volleyball teams rallied to big wins in recent play. The varsity Mustangs topped Hughson in three games during their second-to-last preseason contest of the season on Thursday.

Oakdale’s JV team slugged through six matches in a hosted 11-team tournament JV Tournament on Saturday, taking runner-up honors after a 4-1-1 final tourney record.

Both teams are at Lathrop on Thursday to start Valley Oak League action.

 

Varsity

Oakdale shellacked Hughson for a 25-6, 25-5, 25-12 win after 25 assists from Jackee Lee. Justina Keith added nine kills and 13 service points while McKenzie Willett drove home seven kills. Domi Powell chipped in six kills while Taylor Harper added 11 points.

The Mustangs were reeling from a 3-1 loss in 20-25, 14-25, 25-20, 23-25 scores to Pitman. Justina Keith had four kills and 15 points while Domi Powell added four kills, two blocks and 13 points.

 

Junior Varsity

The JV Lady Mustangs kept their lights-out status going with four match wins and superb defense of their home court on Saturday.

Oakdale split two games with Gregori High in the tournament opener, winning their next two matches in pool play to earn a spot in the championship bracket.

The team nabbed two more wins to see a tournament finale against Gregori on Saturday afternoon. There, Oakdale fell to earn runner-up status in the 11-team field.

Oakdale coach Breann Zellmer highlighted the efforts of back row player Ali Poff and said setter Kelly Gratigny kept up sharp play in tournament competition.

“Ali passed amazing in the back row,” Zellmer said. “They have all been playing really well.”
