On Saturday, July 22, the Oakdale Saddle Club celebrated the National Day of the Cowboy by hosting its’ annual Ranch Rodeo. Local cowboys and cowgirls, as well as several from other counties came to compete in events that simulate what a full-time and day-working cowboy does. This was a Western States Ranch Rodeo Association (WSRRA) sanctioned event. Open and women’s divisions competed in sort, rope and doctor, calf-branding, team roping and trailer load and tie. Additionally, the Women’s Division included steer stopping. As usual, the community stepped up and sponsored buckles, events, cash and prizes for the top teams and individuals. Sponsors included the Oakdale Saddle Club, Turlock Livestock Auction Yard, Conlin Supply, Farmer’s Livestock Market, Hamill Chiropractic, Cattleman’s Livestock, Escalon Feed and Tractor Supply.
Scott Heiny, Chairman of this event and Arena Boss, handed out buckles, cash and prizes to the winning teams in each division. Spectators enjoyed the events free of charge and El Taco Loco was on hand to provide some much needed fuel for the workers, contestants and spectators.
Earning first place in various events for the women’s division were Cristie Jones, Olivia Bennett, Gina Liberini and Robbie Bacon. Bacon was also the Women’s Steer Stopping Champion. In the open division first place went to Garrett Kiernan, Blaine Locket, Travis Kent and Dan Erickson. Second place was awarded to Will Musick, Troy Murray Dave Ramont and Garrett Roen.
Saturday, Aug. 19 the Oakdale Saddle Club will be hosting their Junior Rodeo at the Oakdale Rodeo Grounds. This event begins at 8 a.m.
The Oakdale Rodeo Grounds are located at 1624 E. F Street and these events are free to spectators.
