The first round of the 2018 CIF Sac-Joaquin Division IV boys tennis playoffs began on Friday, May 4. Oakdale High School reached the tournament and went in as the five seed. The Mustang tennis players traveled to Livingston and battled courageously but fell short 5-4 and had their season come to a close.

“What a great season we had. I could not be more proud of these young men,” said Mustangs head coach Grant Miller.

Oakdale and Livingston split singles action 3-3 to begin the dramatic postseason set. Liam Peters, Oakdale’s number two singles competitor, won 6-1, 6-2. Number three singles Ludvig Westberg concluded his high school career with a three set battle that ended with Westberg winning 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. Fifth ranked singles competitor C.J. Toledo won in straight sets 6-3, 7-5.

In doubles action the team of Aaron Lowe and Brady Noel earned a 7-5, 7-6 victory for the Mustangs. Unfortunately the Mustangs dropped two of three in doubles and their season came to an end.

“They left it all out on the court,” Miller said. “They were so mentally tough this season. We won a lot of tight matches this season.”
