Back-to-back wins to open the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV playoffs set up Oakdale for the second game in a best-of-three series with Capital Valley Conference champion, Rio Linda, on Tuesday, though results were not available at press time. The Mustangs pounded Lincoln of Lincoln for a 10-0 mercy-rule decision in the postseasons opening round on Wednesday, and added a 3-2 victory over Rio Linda on Saturday to continue postseason play. Anytime you make the playoffs you will face good teams, but the boys were very focused and prepared very hard for this, Oakdale coach Hondo Arpoika said. Obviously that was a very good battle on Saturday. Oakdale scored solo runs in back-to-back innings to take the win. Rio Linda hit batters in the final two frames and allowed RBIs from Joey Machado and Brennon Williams to lead the Mustangs to victory. Williams had tossed the shutout win over Lincoln in the postseasons opening round, and started Tuesdays contest as well. Rio Linda is a solid ball club with good defense, good pitching and they put the bat on the ball, Arpoika said. Beating them was a total team effort, which has been the story of our season. The Mustangs went 13-3 in Valley Oak League play to earn the leagues top postseason seed. If the team can push past Rio Linda, they will see the winner of Manteca and El Dorado (Pioneer Valley League champions) in a best of three series. El Dorado beat Manteca 3-2 in 10 innings on Saturday.
