Mustang Varsity Hoopsters Take Two Of Three Contests

Three games, two wins for the Oakdale High School varsity boys basketball team. Oakdale started the week off with a 59-53 home win over Buhach Colony on Tuesday, Dec. 5. The team trailed 26-25 at the half but outscored the Thunder 22-15 in the final quarter to rally for the win. Drew Legan led the way with 35 points. Sam Medlin scored 13 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in the win.

The following night, Oakdale hosted Summerville and came away with a 41-30 victory. Legan scored a game high 16 points in the win with John Foreman piling up 11 points and connecting on all of his three-point field goal attempts. The Mustangs played tight defense that night, not allowing the Bears to take any three point shots.

Oakdale hit the road Friday night when they took on Liberty Ranch of Galt. The boys fell 80-43 and trailed 40-19 at the half. Oakdale will be back on the road this week when they take on Merced on Wednesday, Dec. 13 with tip off scheduled for 6:30 p.m. On Monday, Dec. 18 the team travels to Atwater for a showdown with the Falcons. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.

 

JUNIOR VARSITY

Oakdale won all three of their games this week. The team defeated visiting Buhach Colony 48-39. Jason Rawe nearly posted a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds. Jonah Norman added 11 points and Blake Eskew scored 10. Payton Bradford made an impact down low with 13 rebounds and six points. The team’s momentum carried over to the next night when they defeated Summerville 42-29. Bradford pulled down 13 rebounds and scored four points. Kaleb McDonald scored eight points and Rawe scored eight points and gathered seven rebounds. The junior varsity team completed their week with a 51-44 road win at Liberty Ranch. Oakdale rallied from a double digit fourth quarter deficit and went on a 20-0 run. Rawe posted a team high 16 points while Bradford pulled down 11 rebounds and scored eight points. Norman added 12 points in the win. Oakdale’s JV boys will hit the road twice this week against Merced and Atwater. Tipoff against Merced is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. against Atwater.

 

FRESHMEN

The youngest of the three teams went 2-1 this week, dropping a contest to Buhach Colony 63-51. Oakdale responded with a pair of wins against Summerville 70-35 and over Liberty Ranch 59-57. The frosh boys will take on Merced and Atwater, both on the road this week.
