Oakdale High’s varsity softball team outscored opposing teams 227-43 in a season that saw the Lady Mustangs accumulate an impressive 22-8-1 record, a Valley Oak League championship and a third place finish in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV playoffs. “Our season was really one to be proud of,” Oakdale coach Larry Loger said. “We overcame a slow start, an emotional loss (for disciplinary reasons) of two key players and made one of the best runs through league that I can remember.“I can’t recall a more dominant stretch run in the VOL.”The Mustang dominance wasn’t ignored at the recent VOL All League meeting, where three players earned first team honors.Brianna Parker was named the VOL pitcher of the year after an incredible season that delivered 132 total strikeouts with just 25 hits allowed in 243 opposing at bats. She walked only three hitters and had a miniscule earned run average, allowing less than one run per game.Marissa Toy nabbed first team all league honors after a .423 average at the plate this season and a superb .511 on base average.Mackenzie Taylor snagged her third all league accolade in three seasons with a .451 2010 batting average and a .506 on base percentage. Shelby Reali grabbed a second team all league honor as well. The Lady Mustangs will return a host of talent for the 2011 program, and will see the influx of a junior varsity team that won an eighth straight VOL title.“With a strong core of returning varsity players and a talented group of underclassmen, we are ready to defend both of our league titles,” Loger said. “Thanks to everyone who helped make our season so successful.”
