Mustang Soccer Boys Keep Playoff Hopes Alive

Currently in fourth place of the Valley Oak League, the Oakdale High School varsity boys soccer team earned a 2-0 home win over Kimball this past week. Oakdale (6-6-4, 3-1-2) defeated the visiting Jags (2-8-1, 1-4-1) on Wednesday, Jan. 17 behind great defense. Goal keeper Philip Knieriere had three saves. On the offensive side it was Esteban Garcia scoring a goal in the first half and Miguel Casillas scored the team’s final goal in the second half. Eric Anaya and Juan Mata each had an assist.

On Friday, Jan. 19 the boys hosted Lathrop where the Mustangs and Spartans finished with a 2-2 tie. Each team was held scoreless in the first half but the two team’s offenses got busy in the second half. Goals by Dylan Oliver and Izzy Valero put the Mustangs on the board. Assists were provided by Esteban Garcia and Manuel Garcia. Knieriere had four saves in the contest for Oakdale.

Monday, Jan. 22 the boys hosted Central Catholic (2-5-3, 1-3-1) following The Leader’s press time. On Wednesday, Jan. 24 the team will host Manteca (0-11-0, 0-6-0) at 5:45 p.m.

 

JUNIOR VARSITY

A pair of victories for the junior varsity team. On Wednesday, Jan. 17 the boys defeated visiting Kimball 7-0. Jay Hummer had two goals for Oakdale and David Ayala, Caden Frazee, Jonathan Arias, Julian Renteria and Edgar Herrera each had one goal. Dylan French had two assists and Peter Crossman, Jay Hummer, Ayala, Renteria and Logan Lourenco all had one each. Friday night the boys defeated Lathrop 6-2. The Mustangs led 4-2 at the break and added two more in the second half. French had a big game against the Spartans as he had three goals and an assist. Hummer, Alexis Aguilar and Herrera scored the other goals for Oakdale. The team is currently 4-2 in league play. Oakdale hosted Central Catholic on Monday, Jan. 22 following The Leader’s press time. The JV boys will host Manteca on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at 4 p.m.
