The Mustang varsity boys golf team improved to 4-0 in Valley Oak League play this past week. With a 194-257 win over Lathrop, the Mustangs are sitting on top of the league standings. Paced by Max Moore who shot 36 on the day, Oakdale handed Lathrop its first loss of the season.

The battle of the two previous unbeaten squads took place on Thursday, March 15 at Oakdale Golf and Country Club. The sky was threatening and light showers fell from the clouds but that was not enough to slow down the Mustangs. Ryan Meyer finished one stroke back of the leader shooting 37 on the day. Calvin Reed finished his nine hole day shooting 39 for Oakdale. David Myrtakis finished fourth for the Mustangs and fifth overall in the match at 40. Tristian Jaramillo (42) and Kyle Seese (45) finished better than five of the Spartans on the day. This was the only match for the Mustangs on the week.

Oakdale’s score of 194 is a new season low, five strokes better than their 199 on March 7 against Manteca. On Monday, March 19 the Mustangs went to Turlock for the Turlock Crosstown Cup Tournament following The Leader’s press time. Oakdale returns to Valley Oak League play on Wednesday, March 21 when they take on both Sierra and Manteca in a three team match in Manteca. Tee time is scheduled for 2:45 p.m.

The Mustangs continue league play on the road on Wednesday, March 28 when they take on both Kimball and Central Catholic at Spanos Park.
