Excitement is building as in just one week, UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) Fight Night will see local fighter Michael “Mayday” McDonald clash with John “Hands of Stone” Lineker. The fight will be aired live on Wednesday night, July 13 on FS1. McDonald, who trains out of Oakdale MMA, will be fighting the Brazilian Lineker in the night’s main event taking place in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
The fifth ranked Bantamweight fighter McDonald (17-3-0) is coming off a victory over Masanori Kanehara on Jan. 2, 2016. Prior to his second round submission victory, McDonald last fought in 2013 when he lost to Urijah Faber. McDonald is a former UFC Bantamweight champion who looks to regain the title, and a win over Lineker would give McDonald a big boost in the UFC Bantamweight division standings.
McDonald 25 years old, stands five feet-nine inches and has an arm reach of 70 inches and leg reach of 39 inches. Lineker (27-7-0) is at a disadvantage in all three categories, as Lineker stands five feet-three inches with an arm reach of 67 inches and leg reach of 36 inches.
Lineker, 26 years old, is on a four-win fighting streak and has won seven of his last eight fights. He last fought at UFC 198 where he won by unanimous decision over Rob Front on May 14, 2016.
A total of 12 fights are scheduled on the fight card including number three ranked Lightweight Tony “El Cucuy” Ferguson (21-3-0) taking on up and comer Lando Vannata (8-0-0). Also on the card will be a pair of women’s division matches. Courtney “Cast Iron” Casey (4-3-0) does combat with Romania’s Cristina “Barbie” Stanciu (5-1-0) in the women’s Strawweight division and Lauren Murphy (9-2-0) takes on undefeated Katlyn Chookagian (7-0-0) in women’s Bantamweight action.
