It’s another Valley Oak League title for the Oakdale Lady Mustangs varsity water polo team.

The girls claimed two victories this past week to earn the championship. Oakdale defeated Sonora 13-11 on the road and defeated Lodi 9-7 on Saturday to earn the title. With the win, Oakdale earned a spot in the 2016 CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division I playoffs. Perhaps an even more impressive over feat, is the program’s success in league play over the past several seasons under Coach Diane Kline, sporting a 50-0 mark.

Oakdale (21-3 overall, 6-0 VOL) will be the number three seed in the Section tournament and will face the winner of sixth ranked Granite Bay and 11th ranked Turlock on Friday, Nov. 4. The playoff game is set for 5:30 p.m. at the Oakdale Aquatics Center. Oakdale has won three straight CIF Section Championship banners and are on the hunt for a fourth. Other powerhouses in the bracket include top ranked Davis Sr., number two ranked St. Mary’s and fourth ranked Lincoln South. The finals are set for Saturday, Nov. 12 at Woodcreek High School with a start time of 4 p.m.

The Mustang boys’ water polo season came to an end with a 13-6 road loss to Sonora on Tuesday, Oct. 25. Prior to the loss the boys won three straight games. Oakdale will miss the playoffs for the first time in three years.
