Completing another successful season, the Oakdale Lady Mustangs girls golf team has captured its second consecutive Valley Oak League (VOL) title. The girls recently wrapped up the league campaign, going 14-0. The team’s winning streak has reached 33 dating back to 2015. The team played host to the VOL Championship Tournament on Monday, Oct. 16 where they hosted all eight teams in the league at Oakdale Golf and Country Club. Much like they have over the last two-plus seasons, the girls showed their dominance and won the tournament by 66 strokes over second place East Union.
As a unit, the girls shot a combined 422 strokes on the day. All five of the Lady Mustang golfers placed in the top eight on the day. Taylor Stewart finished the tournament on top of the leaderboard, carding a 78 on the day and won the Valley Oak League’s Most Valuable Player for the second year in a row. Oakdale’s stellar day continued with Madi Blanc (82), Andrea York (84) and Shealyn Hanrahan (85) finishing third, fourth and fifth overall respectively. Allie Denning (93) finished in eighth place out of 50 golfers.
“Coach Lee McGhee and I have been very fortunate to be able to work with an outstanding group of young ladies,” Coach Jeremy Fields said of the team. “All ten girls on our team this year have worked toward team success, by building good relationships, establishing a relentless work ethic, and pursuing their goals with a positive attitude that reflects our school and community values. We will continue to work and improve at the sport of golf but will also enjoy our time together as a team and see how far this wave will take us.”
This week the girls hosted the 2017 Sac-Joaquin Section Division III Tournament at Oakdale Golf and Country Club.
