High School Hosts AAU Track And Field Event
Track

This year’s AAU Track and Field Region 22 National Qualifier event will be held at Oakdale High School from June 13 through 16. This is for young athletes who compete in various Olympic style events. The age divisions run from under eight to 18.

The young aspiring athletes are looking to qualify for the National AAU Junior Olympic Games in Des Moines, Iowa set for July 22, 2018. To move on from regionals, the athlete must place in the top six in their respective races or field events as an individual. The top four relay teams and top four multi-event finishers will also advance. Oakdale’s Kayden Legan is one of the thousands who have signed up for the event. Legan is a standout track star for the Oakdale Mustangs. In late May Legan finished 15th in the 3200 meter race at the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Finals. Earlier in the year, the speedy sophomore placed first in the same race at the CIF Divisionals and set a school record in the 3200 meter race back in March. She is set to run in multiple events and is expected to take the track on both Friday and Saturday, June 15 and 16.

There is still time to sign up online through www.coacho.com and the deadline is Monday, June 11 at 11:59 p.m. For more on the meet, log on to www.aausports.org.
