Girls Tennis Battles To 7-7 VOL Mark

The regular season came to a close for the Oakdale girls tennis team this past week. The girls dropped both of their road contests to end the season with a record of 7-7 in the Valley Oak League. Oakdale fell to Sierra and Manteca to end the season on a three-game losing streak.

On Tuesday, Oct 17 the girls traveled to Manteca to take on the Sierra Timberwolves. Sierra clawed their way through Oakdale 6-3 to complete the season sweep of the Lady Mustang tennis team. Kendra Branch was Oakdale’s lone singles winner in the road contest. Branch defeated Joyce Sebastian 5-7, 7-5, 10-5. In doubles action Shannen Yang and Cailie Rariden won in straight sets for Oakdale 6-1, 6-3. The team of Angie Lowery and Alyossa Jingco were also victorious in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.

On Thursday afternoon, Oakdale made the trip back to Manteca to face off against the Buffaloes where Oakdale fell 9-0. Oakdale’s season began on a promising note as the girls started the year off winning four straight matches.

The postseason began on Tuesday, Oct. 24 when the girls hosted the 2017 Valley Oak League Singles Tournament. The Tournament was held following The Leader press time.

On Thursday, Oct. 26 Oakdale will be the host school for the 2017 Valley Oak League Doubles Tournament. The tournament is scheduled for 9 a.m.

Playoffs begin Monday, Oct. 30.
