Girls Place Fourth At Track, Field Sections

Bella Vista High School hosted the Olympic like games for the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Track and Field Finals.

The Oakdale Mustangs track and field teams headed to Fair Oaks for the two day event under the sun. Oakdale’s girls’ team finished with 43 total team points taking fourth place behind host Bella Vista 92, Cosumnes Oaks 54 and Vista del Lago 52.50. Help earning points for Oakdale and punching their tickets to the Masters were throwers Hannah Chappell, Kai Tanner, Kyndall Vargas and Deonna Osmundson. Chappell is making her fourth consecutive trip to Masters after her first place finish in the discus. Chappell powered her way through the competition with her finals throw of 156-06. Finishing second in the discus and also advancing to Masters was junior Vargas with a throw of 108-04, and teammate Osmundson finished fourth in the contest with a heave of 104-05.

Earning first place in the shot put was senior Kai Tanner. Tanner will be returning to Masters with a first place throw of 37-07 throw in the finals. Teammate Bronte Lucero placed sixth in the competition with a throw of 33-06.50.

In the triple jump, sophomore Cassie England placed third with a jump of 35-03.75 to advance to the Masters. Senior Melody Johnson placed fifth in the 100 meter hurdles and sixth in the 300 meter hurdles. Notable performances also included Mikayla Wong in the pole vault, sixth place and Madyson Falconi took 10th in the long jump at 15 feet, eight inches.

The boys failed to place in the tournament but had respectable performances from senior Austin Burke who placed seventh in the triple jump at 43.02.75 and junior Michael Everett, who placed eighth in the shot put.

The Masters will be held at Elk Grove High School on May 26 and 27.
