Oakdales Kristin Aguilar earned a medal in the varsity girls 5 kilometer race at the VOL Cross Country Championship meet at Legion Park.

Some of Oakdale’s fall sports programs are gearing up for CIF Section play, while others are entering their final regular season games of the 2015 campaign. Girls golf, volleyball, boys water polo and cross country are all heading into the final stretch of the season.

GOLF

Freshman Taylor Stewart shot an impressive 77 at Bing Maloney for the Division III CIF Playoffs. Stewart’s 77 just missed the cut by one stroke to advance to the 2015 CIF Masters playoff. Stewart placed seventh overall. Bronte Lucero (100) and Emily Greenwood (103) also represented Oakdale in the playoffs.

CROSS COUNTRY

The frosh-soph girls took first place at the VOL championship meet at Legion Park on Tuesday, Oct. 27. In the two mile individual event, Bailee Garcia finished second (14:58), while Kaitlyn Dickson and Yetzel Garcia placed in the top ten. “The frosh sophomore team performed great. Everyone on the team ran season best times,” said coach Guy Fowler.

The frosh soph boys placed third in both league and in the meet as John Foreman placed 13th overall in the two mile meet.

For the varsity girls, who finished fourth in both the meet and league, they ran a 5k courser at Legion Park. Kristin Aguilar finished in the top ten with her ninth place finish at 21:59 earning a top ten medal.

“Kristin worked really hard to break that top 10, which is not easy to do in our league,” Fowler said.

Suzey Ramirez and Ruby Houchens finished in the top 25.

Oakdale’s varsity boys finished in a three way tie for fourth place in the VOL and finished sixth in the meet. Justin Crescenti finished 20th in the 5k run with a time 18:15.

VOLLEYBALL

The 2015 campaign has been exciting for the varsity girls this season. Under first year head coach Heather Gonzalez, the team has recorded a perfect 12-0 league record. The latest victim to fall to the talented team was East Union in Manteca on Tuesday, Oct. 27. Oakdale took care of business in four sets (25-13, 25-18, 21-25, 25-18). Behind Makkena Ryan’s team-leading four aces and one block, the team earned the win in VOL play. Lauren Ott led the team in both kills and digs with 13 and 24 respectively. Isabella Cobarruvias added 24 assists on the night. The team played at Weston Ranch on Thursday, Oct. 29 but no scores were reported. Oakdale wrapped up the season on Tuesday, Nov. 3 for Senior Night 2015 against Central Catholic, after The Leader’s press time.

BOYS WATER POLO

The team hosted Central Catholic on Wednesday, Oct. 28 for Senior Night 2015. Nine seniors were honored before jumping into the pool. No final score was reported, but the boys trailed 6-0 at the half. Oakdale will compete in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division III Section tournament. Oakdale is the seven seed and will host 10th seeded Bear River today, Nov. 4. The match is set for 5:30 p.m.
