The Lady Mustangs varsity golf team is nearing a perfect season. With victories over Lathrop and Sierra this week, Oakdale is now sitting at 11-0 with three matches left to play before the Valley Oak League tournament. To solidify their elite status, Oakdale placed first out of 20 teams at the Sierra High School Invitational on Wednesday, Oct. 4.

The team played 18 holes at Manteca Park and Oakdale finished at the top of the leaderboard with a team score of 442, which was four strokes better than second place Heritage High School from Brentwood.

Taylor Stewart finished third overall out of the entire 114 golfers participating and was awarded All-Tournament Selection honors. Stewart shot 82 on the day. Teammates Makayla Christensen (87), Madi Blanc (88), Andrea York (92), Allie Denning (93) and Shealyn Hanrahan (97) rounded off the day for Oakdale.

“We have all played golf together since a young age, so that experience and familiarity has helped us all become so successful on the golf course,” Stewart said.

In league action Oakdale defeated Lathrop via disqualification due to the Spartans’ lack of players. On that day, Oakdale still had to play nine holes and as a team finished at 203. Three Lady Mustangs scored in the 30s; Stewart, Blanc and Christensen each carded a 39. York (42), Denning (44) and Chloe Liekhus (50) completed Oakdale’s day at Old River Golf Course.

Capping off the busy week, Oakdale returned home to Oakdale Golf and Country Club for nine hole action against Sierra. The Lady Mustangs won 198-333. Once again three golfers finished in the mid to high 30s for Oakdale. Blanc led the way at 37. Stewart (39), Hanrahan (39), York (41), and Christensen (42) completed the scoring.

Tuesday, Oct. 10 the girls hosted Weston Ranch following The Leader’s press time. Wednesday, Oct. 11 the team takes on Manteca at Manteca Park.

On Friday, Oct. 13 the girls finish out the regular season schedule against Kimball.
