Big Week As Oakdale Swimmers Host Events

Oakdale High School’s swim team had an action packed week that saw Kimball come to town for Valley Oak League competition and on Saturday, Oakdale welcomed multiple teams from the Sac-Joaquin Section and beyond for the annual March Madness Invite.

On Friday, March 9 Oakdale battled Kimball as the boys varsity edged the visitors 80-79 and the varsity girls won 90-79. In boy’s action Ethan Perry took first place in both the 50 freestyle and 100 backstroke to help spark the Mustangs over the Jags. Also scoring 12 points for the Mustangs was Stash Perry. He earned the much needed points for the Mustangs when he placed first in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle. Chandler Neal placed second in both the 100 butterfly and the 100 breaststroke for a total of eight points. David Terwilliger earned a second place finish in the 200 IM and finished third in the 100 freestyle event.

For the ladies it was Jensen Perry who took first place in a pair of events. Perry took first in both the 50 and 200 freestyle races. Kassidy Houck had a strong outing as she took first in the 200 IM and second in the 100 freestyle. Daytona McGinnis took second in the 100 butterfly. Kayla Peterson placed second in the 100 backstroke and third in the 100 butterfly. Madi Blanc took second in the 100 breaststroke and third in the 50 freestyle.

In junior varsity action, Kimball defeated the Oakdale JV girls 64-58 and the Mustang JV boys took a 46-0 loss. Highlights for the girls came from Lacey Hardy, who took first in both the 50 and 100 freestyle events. Camryn O’Neal took first in the 50 breaststroke and third in the 50 backstroke.

A large turnout for the March Madness event saw multiple standout efforts from the host Mustang squads. Aron Cameron took fifth in the male breaststroke event. Chandler Neal placed fifth in the 50 freestyle and sixth in the 100 breaststroke. Ethan and Stash Perry each had a big and busy day, as Stash took second in the 200 freestyle and fourth in the 100 freestyle, while Ethan earned second in the 100 backstroke.

For the Lady Mustangs, Kassidy Houck earned a pair of top 10 finishes as she placed sixth in the 100 freestyle event and eighth in the 50 freestyle. Whitney Lee placed sixth in the 500 freestyle and seventh in the 100 backstroke. Juliette Leibenson earned a pair of top 10 finishes as she placed eighth in the 200 freestyle and ninth in the 100 breaststroke.

In relay action the 200 medley girls placed second overall as Kayla Peterson, Hannah Lee, Daytona McGinnis and Kassidy Houck combined for a time of 2:01.39, which put them in the top 10 in the school record books with the eighth fastest time in OHS history.

This week Oakdale will continue Valley Oak League action when they welcome in Weston Ranch on Friday, March 16. The meet is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at the Oakdale Aquatic Center.
