Oakdale resident and Mixed Martial Arts fighter Buddy “Braveheart” Wallace has had an interesting two weeks. On Aug. 5 Wallace (15-6) defeated Mike Morales (7-8) in a middleweight bout at Global Knockout 10 at Jackson Rancheria Casino Resort.

“It was on short notice. I always stay in shape, in case an opportunity comes up. This fight was the co-main event and it was quick. I finished the fight within two minutes with a technical knockout,” Wallace explained.

On Tuesday night, Aug. 15 Wallace’s display of talent was showcased in front of Ultimate Fighting Championship owner Dana White. Wallace competed on the new UFC show Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series, where he clashed with Charles Byrd (8-4) out of Texas.

“My management team contacted me with about six days’ notice of the fight,” Wallace noted. “I have more experience and I am very confident about my chances.”

The winner of the fight, hosted after press time for The Leader, could win a UFC contract.

“That has always been the goal. I am ready for it. I knew it was just a matter of time before I got my opportunity,” Wallace said.

Wallace has been fighting and training at Oakdale MMA for six years and good friend and teammate at Oakdale MMA Last Stand Fight Team Angel DeAnda competed on the same show last month.

“It’s funny because I made the trip to Las Vegas with Angel for his fight. He will be my right hand man this time. So I saw first-hand the atmosphere of Vegas and how intimidating it can be,” Wallace explained. “I am excited though. I am glad to have Angel and all of Oakdale MMA Last Stand Fight Team in my corner, even if they all can’t make the trip.”

Look for results of the fight in the Aug. 23 edition of The Leader.
