The varsity girls water polo team improved to 5-2 following an intense 11-10 victory over Lodi on Tuesday, Sept. 20. Oakdale found themselves in a 4-1 deficit following the first period. Oakdale shook out the cobwebs and scored three goals in the second period to trail 7-4 at the half. Never out of a game, the defending CIF Sac-Joaquin Section champions outscored Lodi 7-3 in the second half for the win.
Providing big offense for Oakdale was senior Emily Bennett, who found the net seven times in the win. Kinsey Ollis added two goals, and Clare McKeon and Kate Mendes each scored one goal in the win. Sophomore goalkeeper Camryn O’Neal had 10 blocks in the win for Oakdale. The Lady Mustangs will host Woodcreek of Roseville on Thursday, Sept. 29. The game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
BOYS WATER POLO
Oakdale’s boys put up a good fight against Lodi on Tuesday, Sept. 20. Oakdale fell 8-7 to the Flames. Lodi opened up the first period with a 3-1 advantage and held on. Down 5-3 at the half, Oakdale outscored Lodi 3-2 in the third but their offense cooled off in the fourth, scoring only one goal. Caden Nord scored three goals for Oakdale and Davis Albertoni added two goals and four steals for the Mustangs. Also piling up stats were Cory Leach with two goals and three steals, while Jackson Metcalfe had three steals in the loss. Goalkeeper Zachary Hill had four saves for Oakdale. Still in search of their first win, Oakdale hosts Ripon on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 5 p.m.
