With talented Oakdale High athletes scattered across all spring sports, it took a lot for any one team to stand out in highly successful seasons as the school year came to a close.
Oakdale’s varsity baseball team did just that by securing co-Valley Oak League championship honors, the fifth such honor in consecutive attempts.
And the team wasn’t finished there. Oakdale ran through three opponents in four games during the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV playoffs. The last win was a 14-4 mercy-rule defeat of VOL foe Manteca for the Mustangs’ fourth SJS title in five seasons and second straight D-IV blue banner.
Oakdale baseball coach Hondo Arpoika and his staff, along with varsity 16 players earn collective Athlete of the Week status from The Leader for a fantastic season that culminated with the highest honor a SJS team can achieve.
The program, which expects to return 10 players in 2012, should continue to be a top-tier section program moving forward.
