It didn't take long for Oakdale's reigning Sac-Joaquin Section Division II runner-up girls water polo team to be tested in Valley Oak League play. The Lady Mustangs struggled to achieve quality possessions and allowed Kimball to threaten late over a 4-2 victory over the Jaguars on Thursday.

Goalie Hayley Benson ensured the close match stayed in Oakdale's favor by repeatedly stuffing Kimball shots despite a one-sided advantage in shot attempts that swung Kimball's way throughout the contest. Benson's heroic saves late in the game saved the victory, earning her Athlete of the Week recognition from The Leader for her efforts.
