This week the Oakdale tennis team lost to Central Catholic on Tuesday, Oct. 1 by a final of 1-8, with just one win for the Lady Mustangs in the match.

But, coach Grant Miller noted that they came back and battled for a 5-4 win against Sierra on Thursday, Oct. 3 to celebrate Senior Night.

“It was really poetic justice because the final match on the courts was our #2 doubles of Liz Padilla and Halie Gregory,” Miller explained. “They lost their match with everyone watching at Sierra, so the fact that they clinched it was pretty special for that pair. It looks like we will finish in a tie with Sierra for third place.”

Typically, that would mean postseason play but that is still not a certainty.

“With that being we will qualify for the playoffs, but only one of us will get to go,” said Miller. “There will be a coin flip that makes that decision.”
