Dear Editor,
The Escalon High School Boy’s Golf Team would like to once again thank the Oakdale Golf and Country Club for the use of their facilities and their support of Escalon High School Golf. This year the Cougars won their second Section title in the last three years, and it could not have been accomplished without the help of the Oakdale G & CC.
Rick Schultz, Mike Dowd and all the employees that work at the course have always treated us like “royalty.” They have gone out of their way time and again to make sure that our teams are successful. With the many rounds of golf that our players log throughout the season, Oakdale G & CC has always been a place that we can call “home.” It is the belief of the coaching staff that players get better by playing and spending time on the course. Winning only comes from hard work and time invested. The Oakdale G & CC allows us this opportunity. In particular, we would like to thank Mike Dowd for taking the time and effort to organize our “team” clinic. It was extremely beneficial to our players.
It is our belief that Oakdale G & CC is the premier golf facility in our area and we consider ourselves very privileged to use it. We have stated many times, that we definitely have a decided advantage when opponents from other schools come to play us at Oakdale. They too wish that they had this kind of quality at their “home” course and envy our opportunity to play here.
But above everything else, we would like to thank the membership of Oakdale G & CC for their continuing support. We realize that at times it is inconvenient to harbor one, let alone two, high school teams on a golf course. We have appreciated how thoughtful and courteous the membership of Oakdale G & CC has been to us, in addition to their constant words of encouragement. The membership truly makes us feel at home and we are proud to represent you. I can only restate that our recent championships could not have been possible without your backing. Thank you once again.
Finally, we would like to congratulate our Oakdale G & CC brethren, the Oakdale Mustangs, on their second consecutive Section Championship. Coach Lee McGhee, and all of the Mustang players are outstanding people, sportsmen and golfers. Having worked with them this year in various activities has only made our respect for them, and the Oakdale Golf Program, that much greater. We wish the Mustangs nothing but continued success in the future.
