Concerned About Coverage

Dear Editor,

I am really concerned about the state that we are in as a society, when the press has no problems reporting on all the controversies in our communities and the shortcomings. But, they do not want to take the time out of their busy schedule reporting on the despair of our society to take a look at and print in their newspapers events that are going on in the community.

For example, on July 28, 2012, the Oakdale Cowboy Museum had an event for The National Day of the American Cowboy. There were cattle trucks that the kids were able to walk up inside and see how the cattle are hauled. There were cow camp displays, design your own brands for the kids, roping dummies for the kids, poster contests for the kids, and even meet real rodeo cowboys.

So, you would think there were a lot of pictures taken, right? But you would not know this by the amount of pictures that were in the Oakdale Leader and the Modesto Bee. Also, the event was in Oakdale, “The Cowboy Capital of the World,” now don’t you think that our local paper would have been all over this chance to report on this. Maybe, would you not think a whole page of pictures and captions, if not more? Remember this is a local paper and a local event celebrating what is the town’s motto …
