William (Bill) Harris Pollard was welcomed into the kingdom of Heaven at the age of 87 on May 1, 2016 in Fort Collins, Colorado. When he passed, he was surrounded by family, including his devoted wife of 60 years, Marjorie Pollard. Bill was born July 26, 1928 in Mercedes, Texas to Thomas and Lula Mae Pollard, the youngest of four children. He attended Austin College where he earned a degree in Physical Education and then went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration. After college Bill was drafted into the Army and served as a medic in the Korean War. When he returned, he accepted a teaching position at Randolph Air Force Base where he met the love of his life, Marjorie Nell Young. Bill and Marjorie married in 1955 and shortly thereafter moved to Salinas, California, where Bill served as an elementary principal and then Superintendent of City Schools. In 2000, Bill and Marjorie moved to Oakdale, California to be closer to family. They remained in Oakdale until 2013 when Bill and Marjorie moved to Fort Collins, Colorado.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Hank and his brother Marvin. He is survived by his wife Marjorie and four children: Diana (Gary) Pitchford of Alamo, California, Lori (Gary) Gerhardt of Oakdale, California, Elizabeth (Kyle) Berry of Fort Collins, Colorado and Matt Pollard of Alexandria, Virginia; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Dorothy (Dot) Adkins of Denton, Texas. Bill will be remembered by all for his faith in God, his humor and his love.
A memorial service will take place at the Lodge at MacKenzie Place in Fort Collins, Colorado at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 29, 2016. In lieu of flowers, any contributions may be made to Heifer International (http://fundraise.heifer.org/williampollard).
