Leon Sherwood Pettitt, 77, died Friday, Nov. 12 in Oakdale.

He was born in Prescott, Arizona.

Mr. Pettitt served in the U.S. Army and the National Guard.

He retired from the Operating Engineers after 50 years.

He shared adventures and his love for the ocean with those who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Nola; children, Judy Pettitt, Tamra Benson, both of Modesto, Danielle White of Arroyo Grande, Eddie Goad of Santa Rosa, Robert Goad, Kim Dillon; sister, Dorothy Young, all of Oakdale; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Leo Pettitt.

His wishes were to be cremated and to have his ashes scattered at sea.
