JAMES EDWARD NORWOOD obit

James Edward Norwood of Hickman, California marched victoriously into glory on March 14, 2023. Jim, as he was called by loved ones, was born in Oakdale to Don and Patsy Norwood. Jim was a third generation Oakdale resident and his Oakdale roots ran deep. He loved growing up in Oakdale and the friendships he made in this small town remained constant throughout his 65 years.

At Oakdale High School he met his devoted wife Ida whom he married at age 20. With the Lord as their guide, they built a strong marriage and family. Jim was a selfless husband and father who worked hard to provide for his family and lead by example as a humble, righteous man who put his family first in all that he did. When his children were young, he led his family to serve at Calvary Temple in Modesto and led a bus ministry, children’s Sunday school classes, and he was coach of their little league baseball teams. Throughout his life he was a faithful husband and devoted father and was always there for his family, a steady and constant support.

Jim was a dedicated employee of PG&E for 45 years where he worked as an Electrical Operator. He loved his job and the many co-workers who became his friends.

Jim was also dedicated to his faith in the Lord and his church, Calvary Chapel Turlock, where he served as an elder, usher, and encourager to his fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, many who became his dear friends.

Jim loved to spend time at home on his farm in Hickman with Ida, where he loved to garden and tend to his donkey, sheep, and chickens. Every summer his organic garden was filled with beautiful produce and flowers and was a blessing to his family and friends. Jim and Ida’s home was always filled with quality time with their children, family, and friends over many wonderful meals and holidays together.

Jim also loved reading the Bible, Our Daily Bread devotionals, and history books. He loved spending time in the mountains, fishing, and visiting Wyoming and Montana. He loved people and his friendly demeanor and concern for others blessed him with a life filled with family and friends who loved him dearly.

Jim is survived by his wife Ida Norwood, his children and their spouses Jamie and Luke Bell, James and Danielle Norwood, Justin and Arijaan Norwood, his grandchildren Helena, Betsy, and Josiah Norwood, and his brothers Jon and Jeff Norwood.

A celebration of life will be held on April 1 at 10 a.m. at Calvary Chapel Turlock located at 147 S. Broadway Street, Turlock. Memorial Donations may be made to https://ccturlock.com/jim-norwood-giving.
