Herman Pantel was born and raised in Oakdale, California. He married his high school sweetheart Genevieve Steyer in 1945. He served in the Navy during World War II then returned to Oakdale to start his family and career. He established his own butane business and later worked for Gilbert Feed Company until retirement. He is survived by his wife Genevieve; his daughters, Linda Bernard, Diana Bruce, Barbara Adams, her husband, Terry; Laura Forney and her husband, Greg. The family grew to include eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will take place at Oakdale Citizens Cemetery at 9:30 a.m. followed by a memorial service at Shelter Cove Church in Modesto on Friday, September 29.
