Emilia Freitas Parriera, 95, passed away unexpectedly. She was born in Stockton, CA to Antonio S. Rosa and Rose Freitas Rosa. She was raised on the family fruit and nut farm in Linden where she helped with the harvests with her siblings. In 1939, when Emilia and family were in an accident on their way to sell chestnuts, she unknowingly met her future husband to be, Frank Parriera, a patient at the hospital. They married December 15, 1940 living in Snelling and Oakdale on his father’s dairy. They had four daughters. She was a devout Catholic, homemaker all her life, loved dearly her family, country life, and all her animals. She loved to read and watch Soap Operas.
The family separated in 1964 and Emilia moved to Stockton with her mother. She joined The NDGW, serving as president in 1979. In 1986 Emilia returned to Oakdale and joined local Native Daughters. Emilia is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Tony Rosa; sisters, Marie Serpa, and Rose (Butcher) Costa; and grandson, Charles Herder. She is survived by daughters, Deanna Bye (Arthur) of Santa Clara; Bernadette deCastro (Manuel) of Escalon; Veronica Parriera (Scott Lien) of Downingtown, PA.; Genevieve Herder (Mark) of Stockton; Grandchildren, Arthur Bye Jr., Deena Steward  (Daniel), Annette Wolf (James Pharr), Manuel deCastro, and Marcus Molina; Great-Grandchildren, Zachery and Maci Herder, Matthias and Alex Steward, and Great-great grandchild, Gracelyn Herder.
Visitation is scheduled Tuesday, Sept. 26, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. with Rosary Vigil from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Oakdale Memorial Chapel, 830 West “F” St., Oakdale. Mass Wednesday, Sept. 27 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 89 N. Oak Ave., Oakdale. Burial at Oakdale Citizens Cemetery, 701 East “J” St., Oakdale.
