David W. Peixoto, 80, died July 31.

He was born to Lenora and Frank Peixoto in Niles. He was a proud member of the large and loving Peixoto family, with a long history of farming and ranching in the Hayward area.

Mr. Peixoto proudly served in the US Army in Korea.

He had three great loves: family, gardening, and his 1931 Ford “Lil Joe.”

Following a long career in business as an independent owner/operator and truck driver, he and his wife retired to Oakdale in 2001, bringing Lil Joe with them, where he joined the Limp Rods hot rod club, and later the Oakdale Model A’s. Known to his buddies as Digger Dave for his love of gardening, he could often be seen around town in his hot rod and for Friday dinners and car show at Hula’s in Escalon.

His big cheeky grin will be greatly missed by his many friends, especially his breakfast buddies George and Bob from the club, and by neighbors Ernie and Joanie during those late afternoon driveway parties.

He is survived by his daughters; Carleen Cafferata of Newark, Kathleen Peixoto (Don Lemos) of Castro Valley; brother Frank Peixoto; two grandsons; and many loving nephews, nieces, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Colleen.

Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 18 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1225 Olive Street, Oakdale.

Reception to follow at his home.
