Wreaths Across America Program Seeks Donors
Wreath 11-09
Volunteers turned out in a respectable number in December 2021 to place wreaths on each of the gravesites of veterans at Oakdale Citizens Cemetery. Close to 900 wreaths were placed and plans are moving forward for participation in the Wreaths Across America event again this year. File Photo

Oakdale Citizens Cemetery will host the annual Wreaths Across America Ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 17, 2022. Plans for the event are in full force as Oakdale was named an “official Wreaths site” for the Central Valley in 2021.

The event, which honors fallen veterans by placing a wreath on each veteran gravesite, is hosted nationwide on the third Saturday of December each year.

Wreaths Across America (WAA) is a national non-profit with a mission to Remember, Honor and Teach as the placement of sponsored wreaths are delivered to each gravesite by volunteers.

Donations for wreaths are still being accepted. The cost is $15 per wreath of which $5 is donated back to Oakdale Citizens Cemetery.

“Actually $5 of that comes back to the cemetery,” Oakdale Citizens Cemetery Board of Trustees Secretary Melinda Owen stated. “Right at this moment, the Pacific Project Heroes group is matching any donations. They’ve already given us some money, but they will go up to $5,000.”

Persons interested in making a donation to the cemetery, the wreath program or volunteering may do so by calling the cemetery directly at (209) 847-1189.
