A weekend shooting at Woodward Reservoir outside Oakdale left two victims with injuries and one suspect under arrest.
On Saturday, Aug. 1 at about 7:20 p.m., Stanislaus County Sheriff’s deputies responded to 14528 26-Mile Road, Woodward Reservoir, regarding a physical fight involving several individuals. While deputies were responding, dispatch provided updates advising that one of the involved parties was armed with a firearm and was actively firing it. They also informed deputies that two subjects had been shot and several others were lying on the ground, seeking cover.
Once deputies arrived, they located two gunshot victims, one being a 36-year-old male and the other a 31-year-old male. Deputies immediately began rendering aid, and both were transported to a local hospital for treatment. One victim was taken by a Medi-flight helicopter, and the other by a ground ambulance. Both were listed in stable condition shortly after they arrived at the hospital.
As the investigation continued, deputies learned that the suspect, later identified as Jorge Jimenez, a 45-year-old male from Oakland, had fled the scene in a van with two other subjects. Deputies ultimately located a vehicle matching the description, and a vehicle stop was conducted. This resulted in one Hispanic female adult and one Hispanic female juvenile being detained. Both were released shortly after being detained. Jimenez was not located in the vehicle.
Deputies later received information that a subject was acting suspiciously near the main boat ramp area and would hide from law enforcement anytime they were in the area. They responded to this location and located Jimenez. Once Jimenez was contacted, he was taken into custody without incident. A firearm was also recovered. Jimenez was then taken and booked into the Stanislaus County Public Safety Center for two counts of assault with a deadly weapon.
Assisting the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office with the incident were members of the Oakdale Police Department, California Highway Patrol, and the Modesto Police Department’s Air unit.
