A weekend solo vehicle accident claimed the life of an Oakdale man in Tuolumne County.
According to the Sonora CHP, in the late evening of Saturday, Aug. 22 or the early morning hours of Sunday, Aug. 23, a 57-year-old man from Oakdale was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado northbound on La Grange Road – also known as County Route J-59 – south of Avenida Lugo North at an unknown rate of speed.
“The driver failed to negotiate the curvature of the roadway and as a result, his vehicle traveled off the roadway and crashed into a metal pole followed by a tree,” the CHP report indicated.
Sonora Area CHP officers were notified of the crash on Sunday, Aug. 23 shortly before 11:30 a.m.
The driver has been identified in published reports by the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office as Jamie Joseph Theiler, 57, of Oakdale.
When CHP officers arrived on scene Sunday, they were advised the male driver had succumbed to his injuries. It was determined the driver was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash. It is uncertain if alcohol or drugs were a factor. The investigation is continuing.
The Sonora Area CHP is asking anyone who may have witnessed this crash, or has any information regarding this crash, to contact the Sonora Area CHP office at 209-984-3944 and speak to Officer Eric Jorgensen.
“It is unfortunate that tragedies like this occur on our roadways,” Sonora Area CHP commander, Lieutenant Randy Matyshock, stated. “We would like to remind motorists to be mindful of your speed, and please wear your seatbelt. Seatbelts make a difference if you are involved in a crash.”
