We were thrilled this week to receive a surprise visit from our Knights Ferry friend Maizie Brown. Years ago, along with many other dedicated folks, Maizie worked tirelessly to help get the measure passed that would provide Rural Fire with much needed funds. We were so happy to have her visit us here in Valley Home. Maizie is a special and much respected friend within both the Valley Home and Knights Ferry communities. Our gratitude to you Maizie and to all of those who years ago served on the Oakdale Fire Committee, walked areas, knocked on doors and made tons of phone calls...Job well done! I can sincerely say that I made some of the very best of friends I have ever had while working with these wonderful folks all those years ago. Good friends are true treasures!

All Valley Home residents need to be on the lookout and aware of any suspicious activity within our community. Besta Osmundson reports that there has been a recent daytime residential burglary in the vicinity of Valley Home Road near Lon Dale. There were some valuable trophy buckles of significant sentimental value that were taken. A reward is being offered for the return of the buckles.

Michelle McKenzie reports that the school has applied for a Raley’s Reach grant. Raley’s is awarding several grants ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 to the school/non-profit whose idea receives the most online votes between Monday, May 5, 2014 and Friday, May 16, 2014. Valley Home submitted two nominations, but in order to avoid the splitting of votes and to maximize our chances of winning, we are requesting that everyone please vote for the “Modernization of the Computer Lab” nomination as it is the most expensive need. The nomination is at http://www.raleys.com/reach/3648560. You should be able to click on this link and vote once daily. You may need to provide an e-mail registration if you are not already a Raley’s customer, but no purchase is necessary. Please tell your family and friends and spread the word as best you can. This would really help our Valley Home students, especially with their computerized Common Core testing next year.

Our Valley Home 4-Hers will be naming new officers soon. 4-H President Garret Bryhni will be graduating this month and heading to college in the fall. Garret is busy with not only graduation activities but also bringing to a close his journey as an officer for many years in Valley Home 4-H. Like the many 4-Hers who have been a special part of our 4-H through the years, Garret has done an awesome job and we are going to miss him terribly. By the way Garret, we wish you a Happy 18th Birthday! Valley Home wishes you much success and great happiness in your adult life.
