The joy of summertime memories...it was another special June visit for lifelong friends Taylor Denman and Jenna Heaton! It always amazes me, the bond these two friends share. Becoming best friends in kindergarten at Valley Home School, the friendship survived long distance when the Denman family moved to Texas when the girls were about twelve years old. The families stayed close with automobile trips back and forth every summer. As the girls became older- high school aged- the trips became airline flights to and from Valley Home and Texas. Now with the girls attending college, one in California and one in Texas, the best friends still make these trips that are so special and mean so much! This year, after a visit from Taylor in Valley Home, both Jenna and Taylor flew back to Texas for a wonderful visit with Debbee, Russell, and big brother Bubba Denman. The girls had a blast in Texas with the thrill of a lifetime coming toward the end of the visit. On June 7, big brother Bubba took both girls to see George Strait in his very last concert. They had the time of their lives as they listened to George sing his trademark songs “Amarillo By Morning,” “All My Exes Live in Texas,” and the last song of the night “The Cowboy Rides Away.” As a beautiful Texas sunset melted into an evening of a thousand stars Bubba fired up his pickup truck and three tired but happy George Strait fans headed back down the East Texas highway. A few days later Jenna returned to Valley Home, bringing with her new and much treasured memories.

I agreed over a year ago to write this column, to help keep alive the column that the ever active and beautiful Mrs. Laura Burghardt wrote for many years. I am hopeful that with a bit of rest, soon our much loved Laura will share a column or two with all of us! Perhaps a column on our Valley Home history...Laura has so much knowledge to share!
