A Stockton man was killed and a passenger in his vehicle seriously injured in a three-vehicle collision Friday evening, Nov. 11.

The crash occurred about 5:10 p.m. along Valley Home Road at Pleasant Valley Road, according to the California Highway Patrol, which investigated the accident.

Cu Huynh, 47, of Stockton was identified as the victim who suffered fatal injures in the crash, said a spokesperson at the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office.

The CHP report indicated that the driver of a 2013 Honda – a 16-year-old male from Oakdale – was eastbound on Pleasant Valley Road and was making a right turn onto southbound Valley Home Road when the crash occurred. The CHP did not release his name, citing the fact that he is a minor.

A second driver, a 60-year-old Oakdale man, was driving a 2001 Ford south on Valley Home Road, just north of Pleasant Valley at about 55 miles per hour while Huynh was driving a 2007 Honda northbound on Valley Home Road, south of Pleasant Valley, at about 50 miles per hour.

The teen driver was making a right turn but, according to the CHP report, turned in front of the 2001 Ford that was approaching from his left; the driver of the Ford attempted to slow down as he saw the vehicle pulling out in front of him but was unable to turn to the left to take evasive action due to the third vehicle approaching in the opposite direction. The Ford struck the left front of the 2013 Honda, rotating that car clockwise, with that vehicle coming to rest over a canal bridge shoulder. The Ford then continued in a southerly direction, where the left front of the vehicle collided with the left front of Huynh’s 2007 Honda. The Ford then overturned on to the east shoulder and came to rest on its wheels; the 2007 Honda went off the east shoulder, also coming to rest on its wheels but Huynh sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. A 55-year-old female passenger in Huynh’s vehicle was taken to Doctors Medical Center with major injuries; the driver of the Ford had minor injuries and was also taken to Doctors Medical Center. The 16-year-old was not injured, according to the CHP report.

Authorities said there were no arrests and all involved were wearing their safety equipment.
