Summer Reading, Fun Activities Set At Local Library

Story Time Sessions will continue through June.

Preschool Story Time is every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Books, flannel board stories, finger play, and music, geared for preschoolers, ages 3-6, and caregivers.

Wiggle Worms Story Time is now twice each Wednesday, 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Enjoy stories, music, dancing, rhythm activities, and finger play at this special program perfect for ages birth to 3, and their caregivers. (25-30 minutes)

The Summer Reading Challenge for all ages is in full swing. Read books you love, join us for fun activities and programs, and enter for prizes throughout the summer.

Timothy James, Illusionist will be with us for a special performance on Thursday, June 14, at 1 p.m. Magic and comedy blend together to create a fun, upbeat show that is a truly “magical” experience. All are welcome, admission is free.

We have two great S.T.E.A.M. Programs this month. The first is a “challenge” for tweens/teens called “Get Electrified!” with Snap Circuits. Geared to ages 9 and up, participants will find that it’s a “snap” to learn about circuits and electricity. “Sparks” will fly on Tuesday, June 26, at 3:30 p.m., but advance registration is required. Our “Little Scientists” S.T.E.A.M. Program for ages from Kindergarten to 8 years old, will be on Wednesday, June 27, at 3:30 p.m. Listen to a book then explore the world of science with a hands-on activity in our “science lab.” Sign-ups are required in advance. Please call 209-847-4204 for info.

Our Computer Class for Adults will be focused on “Basics” this month on Tuesday, June 12. These classes begin at 10:30 a.m. If you are interested in some experience with Microsoft Excel, you will want to join our class on Thursday, June 7, at 6 p.m. Please call the Library for info and be sure to reserve your space. We will have two LEGO DAYS this month on Thursday, June 7 and June 21, at 3 p.m. Kids can unleash their awesome creativity and we will display their masterpieces in the library. Join us for building fun!

Enjoy our new monthly edition of Family Story Time. Come for a special Saturday Story Time experience on June 9, at 10 a.m. Books, music, finger plays and more! This is a wonderful opportunity for families who miss out on our regular weekday Story Time to share the full experience together.

From Monday, June 11 through Friday, June 16, we will feature our “Around the World Guessing Jar!” Coins, rocks, shells, and more from all corners of the globe will be packed in a jar. Make the best “guestimate” and win a prize.

Our Teen Crafty Book Club, designed for ages 13 and over, will meet at 3 p.m., on Tuesday, June 12. Have you read a great book recently? Come hang out with other teens as we talk books and create together. Crafters will use a guitar pick punch to cut out picks from old gift cards and use them to create individual imaginative items.

We’ll be celebrating all the “Dads” in our lives with a fun, unique craft on Friday, June 15, at 10 a.m. Make a “little something” with “shrinky dinks” to tell him he’s special.

Please bring your little ones for some Toddler/Preschool Dance Fun on Monday, June 18, at 11 a.m. We’ll be “rockin’ out” to some of our favorite Story Time music as well as trying the hula, the Twist, or perhaps a Mexican Hat Dance!

The Summer Reading Program invites children to learn about the world! Join us on Wednesday, June 20, at 3:30 p.m., to craft Maasai necklaces. Bright colors and patterns are the traditional style of the Maasai tribe of Kenya. We will learn about the meaning of the colors and make a unique necklace to wear.

Have more Summer Reading fun with our sports and craft adventure on Thursday, June 28, at 3:30 p.m. We will try some sports and activities from different places and times: indoor archery, basketball, and mini-golf included. And build a catapult for some personal tossing action!

Our Library Book Club will be reading “Silver Star” and meeting to discuss and share on Tuesday, June 26, at 11:30 a.m. Sign out your copy at the Library. New members welcome.

The Friends of the Oakdale Library are the main sponsors of so many of our great programs and prizes, including our fabulous gift baskets given to Adult Summer Reading drawing winners. The Friends constantly promote and encourage the great gift of literacy at all levels for everyone.
