Members of the local Cub Scout Pack are gearing up for their annual Scouting for Food service project in Oakdale.

Scouts will distribute bags across the community on Nov. 10, said Pack spokesperson Anna Wooten.

“A big shout out to Save Mart and Robert, their awesome manager, for the generous donation of eight bundles, which is 2,400 grocery bags,” Wooten noted. “These bags will be distributed all over neighborhoods in Oakdale on Friday, November 10 for our annual Scouting for Food service project. Keep an eye out on your porch.”

The scouts will be back on Saturday, Nov. 18 to pick up the grocery bags. The hope is to collect bags full of non-perishable food items, which will be donated to the Oakdale Community Sharing food pantry to help local families in need.

“We understand that we are living in a challenging economy right now, but we know that the residents of Oakdale are generous, and take care of each other,” Wooten said. “Last year, we collected 5,400 pounds of food. This year we hope to beat that goal and collect 6,000 pounds of food. More food donated equals more families that benefit.”

If you are aware of a local business that would like to participate in the food drive, Wooten said you can let the pack know by sending an email to: Familypack365@gmail.com and they will deliver a bag to the business.
