OPD CAR

The Stanislaus County Coroner’s office identified the 18-year-old male who fell from a moving vehicle on Saturday, Dec. 18 and later died, as Joseph Casas of Oakdale. The teen was an Oakdale High School senior.

Oakdale Police officers were called to the 200 block of North Oak Avenue for a report of a male who had fallen from truck where he was a passenger. Police said the call came in shortly before midnight on Dec. 18.

When officers arrived, they immediately began performing life-saving efforts on the victim, but ultimately, he succumbed to his injuries on the scene. Detectives determined Casas fell while hanging out of the passenger window. Alcohol and vehicle speed do not appear to be a factor as to what caused the accident. The truck had five other occupants, according to police. Those occupants, including the driver, were all juveniles.

Oakdale Joint Unified School District (OJUSD) officials have advised that grief counseling and accommodations will be available for students when they return to school on Tuesday, Jan. 4.

OJUSD officials also said that during winter break, families are encouraged to seek emotional support services through their health insurance and local support services agencies, such as Jessica’s House in Turlock.
