The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2. Note: Shifts are in 24-hour time periods, from 5 a.m. to 5 a.m.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, Sept. 16 through Monday, Sept. 22. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, SEPT. 22
Fire Investigator/Engineer Robert Etcheverry was surrounded by members of his family and MFD personnel as he raised the flag for the final time. Bob is retiring after a long career with MFD. Best wishes!
Battalion 2: Monday apparatus inspections occurred across the battalion today.
Battalion 5: Crews completed weekly apparatus and equipment checks.
Companies completed weekly station maintenance.
6:24 a.m. – Engine 27, Engine 28 and Battalion 5 to Albers and Patterson for a vehicle accident. Crews arrived on scene to find two vehicles involved and three patients with minor injuries. Firefighters assisted OVHD Medics with treating and packaging the patients for transport. All three patients were transported to local hospitals for further treatment.
SUNDAY, SEPT. 21
Battalion 2: Companies completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Battalion 5: Crews in Battalion 5 completed Target Solutions assignments, did station maintenance, and participated in training drills in their respective FMA’s.
SATURDAY, SEPT. 20
Battalion 2: 5:51 a.m. – Engines 23, 24, and Battalion 2 responded to a single vehicle down an embankment in Waterford. One patient was trapped inside the vehicle and crews utilized the jaws of life to open the car door. The patient was transported to Waterford High School with significant injuries and was then airlifted by PHI to a local trauma center. CHP is investigating the cause of the accident.
8:52 a.m. – Engine 7, Engine 26 and BC5 responded to a multi-car accident on Patterson Road in Riverbank. One person was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.
Crews trained on various skills for Saturday drills.
7:53 p.m. – Engine 23, Quint 22, and Battalion 2 were dispatched to assist the Hughson Fire Department with a vehicle accident on Geer Road at Fox Grove. Two vehicles had gone over the embankment. Crews from E23 and Q22 supported Hughson and Denair firefighters in gaining access to the patient and carried him to the ambulance. One patient sustained moderate injuries.
Battalion 5: 3:15 p.m. – Engine 27, Engine 26, Engine 28 and BC5 were dispatched to a two-car accident on Stone Avenue in East Oakdale. There were no injuries.
6:42 p.m. – Engine 28, Engine 27 and BC5 were dispatched to a solo car crash on 26-Mile Road in Oakdale. Crews got on scene and found a driver that lost control and spun out into a fence. The driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
FRIDAY, SEPT. 19
Battalion 2: Companies completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Battalion 2 companies rotated through the second day of Quarterly EMS Training at the new RFTC training classroom.
8:20 p.m. – Engine and Water Tender 23, Brush 24, and Battalion 2 responded to the 500 block of North Blossom Road in Waterford for a report of trees on fire. Engine 23 arrived on scene to find a small pile of vegetation on fire in an orchard. Engine 23 canceled incoming resources and spent 30 minutes extinguishing the pile of vegetation.
Battalion 5: Crews performed company level training in their respective FMA’s, completed mandated Target Solution assignments, and conducted apparatus checks and station maintenance.
Battalion 5 companies rotated through the RFTC for Quarterly EMS training.
THURSDAY, SEPT. 18
Battalion 2: Crews rotated through fourth-quarter EMS training at the RFTC in the new portable classroom.
Battalion 5: Crews performed company level training in their respective FMA’s as well as completed mandated Target Solution assignments.
Crews conducted apparatus checks and station maintenance.
Battalion 5 companies rotated through the RFTC for Quarterly EMS training.
Engine 28, Battalion 5, and Fire Prevention attended the Career Fair at Oakdale High School.
WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 17
Battalion 2: Crews rotated through EMS training at the RFTC Training Classroom.
Flow testing was completed on all SCBA packs and regulators.
Crews completed overdue training assignments.
3:24 a.m. – Engine 23, Quint 22, and Battalion 2 responded to a rescue near Geer and Yosemite involving a vehicle in a canal. Upon arrival, crews found one female individual outside the vehicle with moderate injuries. She received Advanced Life Support care from the Paramedic on Q22. Deputies searched the area for any additional victims, but no others were found. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Station 30 apparatus checks and station maintenance was completed.
Companies rotated through quarterly EMS training. Topics covered included protocol review, trauma procedures and emergency childbirth.
Engine 27 trained on vertical ventilation and 10-month test preparation.
TUESDAY, SEPT. 16
Battalion 2: Quint 22 and Battalion 2 participated in a Standards of Coverage meeting at Station 26.
Crews rotated through EMS training at Station 17.
Crews completed online training.
Battalion 5: Crews completed daily apparatus and equipment checks.
Companies rotated through quarterly EMS training.
8:49 a.m. – MST units responded to the 14000 block of Claribel Road for a working structure fire. First arriving firefighters found a 20’ shipping container loaded with ranch tools and a quad smoldering. Additional responding companies were cancelled as crews overhauled the container. The FIU was on scene conducting a cause and origin investigation.
4:56 p.m. – Engine 28 and Battalion 5 to East F Street for a vehicle accident. Engine 28 arrived on scene to find two vehicles involved and the roadway partially blocked. One patient was treated by Firefighters and transported by OVHD for further treatment. OPD is investigating the accident.
