The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2. Note: Shifts are in 24-hour time periods, from 5 a.m. to 5 a.m.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, July 28 through Monday, Aug. 3. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, AUG. 3
Battalion 2: Chief Tucker remains assigned to an overhead assignment in Oregon.
10:55 p.m. – Brush 24, Engine and Water Tender 23, Brush 28, Engine 9, OES4615 and Battalion 2 responded to a reported vegetation fire. Upon arrival we found a couple of piles of burning wood and vegetation. Brush 24 and Engine 23 stopped the spread of the fire. Crews worked with on-site staff to spread and extinguish the piles.
Battalion 5: Crews conducted Monday apparatus checks and station maintenance.
Station 28 received a new forcible entry training door thanks in large part to the Training Division, providing the Oakdale area stations with an invaluable hands-on training resource.
3:15 p.m. – Engine 28, Engine 27, Quint 22 and Battalion 5 responded for a potential structure fire in Station 28’s FMA. Engine 28 arrived on scene to nothing showing and investigated. There was a malfunction to the electrical service which was isolated to the box. Engine 28 remained on scene for PG&E.
SUNDAY, AUG. 2
Battalion 2: Chief Tucker remains assigned to an overhead assignment in Oregon.
Crews across the battalion trained on multiple different topics. Drivers training, ladders, equipment ground schools and engineer task book signoffs were some of the topics.
Battalion 5: Engine 27 trained on hose estimations and leader line evolutions.
2:03 p.m. – Water Rescue 29, WR28, E27 and Battalion 5 responded to a report of a water rescue in the 15000 block of Morrison Road in Knights Ferry. Due to the water levels being too low to launch the boats, WR29 made access to the river through a residence with the assistance of Sky 1. Crews located multiple rafters on the river’s edge but none were in any distress. The balance of the response was cancelled and all units cleared.
10 p.m. – Brush 28, B23, OES4617, OES4618, WT27, WT23, Battalion 5 and Cal Fire TCU responded to a report of a vegetation fire at Woodward Reservoir F point. B28 arrived at scene to an eighth of an acre on fire with a slow rate of spread. Crews were able to quickly contain the fire, preventing further spread to nearby camp sites. Crews remained on scene for roughly 45 minutes for mop up.
SATURDAY, AUG. 1
Battalion 2: Chief Tucker remains assigned to an overhead assignment in Oregon.
Crews across the battalion trained on multiple different topics. RAM deployment, aerial spotting and engineer task book signoffs were some of the topics.
Battalion 5: Crews in Battalion 5 took the time to freshen up on a multitude of skills including hose deployments and high-rise operations.
4 p.m. – Engine 27, E28 and BC5 responded to a vehicle accident, Valley Home Road and Walnut. Two vehicles were involved. One party had minor injuries and the other fled the scene. Once the patient was treated and transported, the scene was turned over to CHP.
4:45 p.m. – E28, Water Rescue 29, WR26 and BC5 were dispatched to Honolulu Bar recreation area off Orange Blossom Road for a subject who swam across the river and never came back. After our arrival, the subject was located downstream. She was not injured and had no medical needs.
7:45 p.m. – E27, E28 and BC5 responded to Woodward Reservoir for two subjects with gunshot wounds. MFD units assisted with medical care, including the landing of an air ambulance. Once patient care was complete, the scene was turned back over to the Sheriff’s Office.
10:30 p.m. – E27, E28 and BC5 were dispatched back to Woodward to assist Sheriff’s Office personnel with retrieving a subject from the water. Upon our arrival, sheriff’s deputies had already retrieved the person from the lake. MFD units assisted with placing the patient onto the gurney. Patient care was turned over to Oak Valley personnel.
FRIDAY, JULY 31
Battalion 2: Chief Tucker remains assigned to an overhead assignment in Oregon.
Crews spent the day catching up on Target Solutions and other administrative paperwork.
Battalion 5: Battalion 5 crews meet up and Station 17 and reviewed Highrise operations.
8 a.m. – Water Rescue 28, E27 and BC5 responded to Woodward Reservoir for a possible drowning. E27 arrived at scene and made patient contact. Fortunately, prior to our arrival, a young boy used a jet ski to get the patient safely to the shore. All treatment was refused and units returned to quarters.
5:30 p.m. – E27, E28 and BC5 responded to Warnerville and Smith roads for a vehicle accident. Crew arrived at scene and was advised by the reporting party that the occupants of the vehicle fled the scene. E28 remained at scene and assisted with traffic control.
THURSDAY, JULY 30
Brush 28 and Fire Captain Brazil returned from the Dove Incident in Tuolumne County.
Battalion 2: Battalion Chief Tucker continues to be deployed, currently working on the Castle Fire in Oregon.
Stanislaus Consolidated completed its workshop on a Strategic Plan with the center for public safety excellence.
Battalion 2 crews trained at Station 17 on hoseline stretches to upper floors.
Engine 26 hosted a visit from a local children’s group at their fire station.
Battalion 5: Crews in Battalion 5 trained in their respective territories.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 29
MST personnel remained committed to the Dove Incident in Tuolumne County.
Battalion 2: Battalion Chief Tucker continues to be deployed, currently working on the Castle Fire in Oregon.
Stanislaus Consolidated is working on a Strategic Plan with the center for public safety excellence.
Battalion 2 companies trained on hose pulls, ladders, and ropes around the battalion.
Battalion 5: Crews in Battalion 5 trained in their respective territories.
TUESDAY, JULY 28
Battalion 2: Multiple personnel participated in the strategic planning process at Station 26.
Chief Tucker was released from Biscar Incident and was reassigned to the Castle Fire in Oregon.
E26 trained on Ram Deployments.
Battalion 5: Engine 27 trained on the RIC bag and firefighter search and survival drills at Station 27.
1:55 p.m. – Engine 23, Engine 7, Quint 22 and Battalion 5 responded to a vegetation fire threatening a building on Milnes Road, Oakdale. Engine 23 arrived first and quickly mitigated the threat and extinguished the fire before it could damage any structures.
