Oakdale-Riverbank Fire Calls 6-7-23
Oak Riv Fire Calls

The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.

Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, May 30 through Monday, June 5. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.

 

MONDAY, JUNE 5

Battalion 2: 4:10 p.m. – Stanislaus Boat 24, E23, Modesto Boat 29 and BC1 responded to the Tuolumne River in Waterford for reports of a subject in the water in distress. Crews quickly launched and Boat 24 was able to quickly find the subject and pull him to safety. The subject was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.

9:47 p.m. – E23, E24, and Q22 were dispatched to the intersection of La Gallina and F Street for a vehicle accident with pin-in. E24 arrived to find one vehicle that had run off the road and crashed into the canal. The solo occupant of the vehicle was sitting on the roof of the vehicle. She was near the edge of the canal and just needed help off of the vehicle. Oak Valley Ambulance handled all patient care. Waterford Police Services was investigating the accident.

Battalion 5: Crews completed Monday apparatus checks.

Crews rotated through administrative training at Fire Station 1.

6:08 p.m. – Modesto Engine 27, Engine 28, Stanislaus Quint 22, and BC5 responded to a potential structure fire in the 9000 block of Pimley Drive for the smell of something burning. Upon arrival there was nothing showing from a large single-story house. After investigating the cause was determined to be a malfunctioning air conditioning system.

 

SUNDAY, JUNE 4

Battalion 2: 2:48 p.m. – Quint 22 and BC2 responded to the 600 block of South Santa Fe Street for a cardiac arrest. Return Of Spontaneous Circulation was gained and the patient was transported to an area hospital.

Battalion 5: Crews conducted an after actions review of a water rescue with the Stanislaus County Sheriff focusing on improving coordination on the rivers.

10:38 a.m. – Brush 28 and BC5 assisted Escalon Fire Department with a small vegetation fire on the county line.

 

SATURDAY, JUNE 3

Truck Academy at Station 17 – MST trucks and squads reviewed aerial operations and scheduled maintenance.

Battalion 2: 3:55 p.m. – Engine 21, Grass 3, Brush 23, Brush 24, and Battalion 2 responded to the 3400 block of Finch Road for a vegetation fire. Crews located a homeless camp and dry vegetation burning. The fire burned .81 acres.

Battalion 5: 10:47 a.m. – Water Rescue 29, 28, Engine 27 and BC2 responded for the report of an overturned raft just below Russian Rapids in the community of Knights Ferry. Boat 29 launched from their station and was quickly on scene. Sheriff’s Office Marine 6 was in the area and assisted Boat 29 with gathering all people out of the water and returned them to shore. There were no reported injuries.

 

FRIDAY, JUNE 2

MST Truck, Quint and Squad companies participated in the truck academy. Crews reviewed aerial maintenance and operations.

Battalion 5: Engine 7 hosted Fire Management Area training for E3, E9, E26 and Battalions 1 and 3. Topic was building construction, hazards, and commercial fire attack at the Sylvan Public Storage.

Crews placed Boat 28 back in service.

 

THURSDAY, JUNE 1

MST Truck, Quint and Squad companies participated in the truck academy. Crews reviewed ground and aerial ladder placement and operations.

Battalion 2: Station 26 conducted three public education events for a Riverbank area day care, Sierra 4H, and a French exchange student whose dad is a firefighter.

3 p.m. – Brush 24, B23/W23, B1, BC2 and a full Cal Fire response, responded to the report of a vegetation fire in the 300 block of Old La Grange Road. Cal Fire was the first to arrive, reported a quarter-acre fire with a slow rate of spread. B24 was kept, the balance was cancelled.

Battalion 5: The Sierra 4-H handed out first responder baskets filled with treats while visiting stations 26 and 28.

 

WEDNESDAY, MAY 31

Battalion 2: Planet Fitness donated cardio equipment to the SCFPD Stations.

Crews rotated through rural water supply training.

Battalion 5: The MST Academy trained on water rescue swimming and victim rescue on the Stanislaus River in Knights Ferry.

Crews rotated through Quarterly Drivers Training at Fire Station 17 that was focused on rural water supply.

12:454 a.m. – Modesto Grass 27, Water Tender 27, Brush 28, Grass 29, BC5, Cal Fire TCU Engine 4462, Engine 4472, and BC4406 responded to a vegetation fire in the Mutual Threat Zone (MTZ) in the 4200 block of Carter Road. Crews arrived with two acres of dry grass on fire in a pasture with a slow backing fire into the wind. Crews were able to quickly extinguish the fire and mop up the area. The vegetation fire was caused by a vehicle fire; FIU is investigating.

 

TUESDAY, MAY 30

MST Crews rotated through Station 17 and were trained on rural water supply operations and tactics.

A safety stand-down took place in the afternoon with a focus on mental health.

Battalion 2: 12:57 p.m. – Modesto E7, BC1, Stanislaus E26 and Q22 responded to the intersection of Patterson Road and Skittone Road for a two-vehicle accident with reports of a subject still trapped. E7 arrived on scene and found two vehicles blocking the roadway with no one entrapped. E7 and E26 treated the involved parties with one being transported to an area hospital. CHP was on scene to investigate the collision.

Q22 attended a finance meeting at HQ and completed probationary truck signoffs.

Battalion 5: Crews conducted apparatus checks and station maintenance.
