The following is a listing of some of the local calls for service involving the Modesto Fire Department, which staffs Stations 27, 28, 29 and 30 in Oakdale, Knights Ferry and Valley Home as part of Battalion 5; and the Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Department, covering the Riverbank area, as part of Battalion 2.
Calls were logged during the time period of Tuesday, April 11 through Monday, April 17. Days not listed had no reports of significant incidents in this area.
MONDAY, APRIL 17
Battalion 5: 4:56 a.m. – Engine 27, 28, 26, 23,7, Quint 22, and BC5 responded for the report of a dishwasher on fire in the City of Oakdale. On scene crews had a small fire that was quickly extinguished with no extension outside of the dishwasher.
Crews assisted with the Stanislaus County AG pass training. This a program designed to give training to local ranchers in fire safety so that they can have access to their properties to care for livestock when a fire occurs on or near their ranch. Other agencies involved were CAL FIRE, Stanislaus County ag commission, Stanislaus County Sheriff.
SUNDAY, APRIL 16
Battalion 2: Crews trained at the company level.
Battalion 5: 7:13 p.m. – Engine 26, Water Rescue 28, Water Rescue 24, and Battalion 5 responded to the area of Jacob Myers Park for juveniles that were stuck in the river after their raft failed. A search of the area did not find anything. Additional information was received that they may be at Caswell state park. Air101 was requested to respond to that area. The children were found and removed by Air101. There was no need for medical attention. All fire units cleared.
SATURDAY, APRIL 15
Battalion 5: MST units conducted equipment checks, station maintenance and SWT Boat training.
FRIDAY, APRIL 14
Battalion 5: MST units conducted equipment checks and station maintenance.
MST units WR18, WR24, WR28, WR29 conducted SWT Boat training.
THURSDAY, APRIL 13
Battalion 2: 2:16 p.m. – E26, E28, and BC5 responded to a possible drowning in the 5500 block of Green Oaks Drive. When E26 arrived, deputies were performing CPR on a juvenile. When the crew began their assessment, the patient had regained pulses and was breathing. The patient was transported to a local hospital with one firefighter on board.
Battalion 5: 10 a.m. – Modesto BC5 attended the Oakdale Fire Protection District Board Meeting at Fire Station 30 in Valley Home.
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 12
Members of the Peer Support team met and trained with First Alarm Wellness and the department’s mental health and wellness.
Battalion 2: Crews participated in a walkthrough of the old Riverbank ammo plant.
Battalion 5: Modesto BC5 attended the Valley Home Municipal Advisory Council Meeting.
1:30 p.m. – Engines 7, 9, 26, 27, Quint 22, BC1, BC2, and BC5 attended a walk-through familiarization training at the Riverbank Army Ammunition Plant with facility staff.
8:20 p.m. – Modesto Engines 27, 28, 29, and BC5 responded to a vehicle accident at the intersection of 26 Mile Road and Valley Home Road involving a pickup truck and a dirt bike with one immediate and one delayed patient, both from the dirt bike.
TUESDAY, APRIL 11
Battalion 5: 10:25 p.m. – Modesto E27, E28, T5, Stanislaus E26, Q22, and BC5 responded to a commercial fire alarm in the 300 block of Oak Avenue in Oakdale. Upon arrival crews had a burning smell and light haze in a single-story outpatient medical building. The cause was determined to be a seized motor on an HVAC unit; the power was secured to the unit and the building turned over to building maintenance.
