The Oakdale Garden Club will resume its monthly meetings on Tuesday, Aug. 18 at 10 a.m., at the Community Methodist Church, 1480 Poplar St., Oakdale. New members are always welcome to join and learn more about gardening in the community.

This month’s guest speaker is Marcie Davis of M & J Farms, located in Stanislaus County since 2015. She will be speaking on how they have expanded into sustainable practices by transforming waste wool into Wooly Garden—their chemical-free wool pellet fertilizer. This innovative product enhances soil health by improving aeration, retaining moisture, and naturally deterring slugs and snails. By repurposing wool, it contributes to a circular economy while promoting eco-friendly gardening solutions.

Throughout the summer, club members have been hard at work keeping the downtown flower pots weeded and well-watered during the heat. At Fish Park’s Veteran’s Garden, members weeded and planted new flowers to ensure a colorful display for the Veteran’s Day celebration in November.

At the August meeting, ticket booklets will be available for members to sell for the club’s Annual Autumn Garden Tour, coming up Oct. 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The self-guided tour will feature six unique gardens throughout Oakdale, each showcasing the creativity and talents of local homeowners. Tickets are $25 and may be purchased from any Garden Club member or locally at several stores; locations to be announced.
