VBS Upcoming

At Sierra Baptist

Plan to join in the fun and learning at Sierra Baptist Church, 74 N. Lee Ave., Oakdale, as the church hosts ‘Submerged – Finding Truth Below the Surface’ Vacation Bible School from Monday, July 11 through Friday, July 15. VBS runs 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. daily. At the VBS, kids will be submerged in God’s Word and will discover that Jesus saw people differently, seeing people for who they were deep down, not who they appeared to be on the surface. Classic Car Show

The Oakdale Community United Methodist Church, 1480 Poplar Ave., Oakdale, will host a pancake breakfast and classic car show on Saturday, July 16 at the church from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Big Valley VBS

Big Valley Grace Community Church will become Pirate Island for Kids Campus, July 10 through 14 in a fun Vacation Bible School program. ‘Pirates’ kicks off on Sunday, July 10 at 6 p.m.; bring the family and enjoy a time of fellowship, fun and free pizza. Kids in first through sixth grades return on Monday at 10 a.m. to explore the uncharted seas and discover God’s amazing grace. Hours for the Monday through Thursday VBS are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. each day at the Worship Center of Big Valley Grace Community Church, 4040 Tully Road, Modesto, a half-mile north of Standiford Avenue. Delta Tule Trekkers

Plan Walk Events

Plans are underway for upcoming Volksport Walks at Brushy Peak near Livermore and Calaveras State Park near Manteca. You can learn all about these group walks for fun and fitness at the Delta Tule Trekkers’ monthly meeting on Monday, July 11 at CK Grill, 14725 S. Harlan Road, Lathrop. Dinner/social hour begins at 6 p.m., and the meeting is at 7 p.m. Anyone interested in walking for fitness, fun and friendship is invited to attend. Toastmasters Meet

In Riverbank Area

Riverbank welcomes the REO Speechtrain Toastmasters Club for regular meetings every Wednesday morning, 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., at Perko’s Cafe, Patterson and Oakdale roads, Riverbank. This is a fun way to learn the self-confidence and skills needed for public speaking. All are invited to come and check out the group. The next meeting will be Wednesday, July 13. Youth Troupe’s

Les Miserables

Stanislaus County Office of Education’s YES (Youth Entertainment Stage) Company is producing the classic musical “Les Miserables, School Edition” to be performed at the Gallo Center for the Arts in Modesto. Tickets are now on sale at the Gallo Center for the Arts box office and online at www.galloarts.org. Performances are slated for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 28; Fridays, July 22 and 29; with 3 p.m. shows on Saturdays, July 23 and 30; Sundays, July 24 and 31. VFW Hamburger

Nights Continue

Oakdale’s VFW Post is gearing up for the next of its monthly hamburger night fundraisers, with Wednesday, Aug. 3 the date for the next event. Hours are from 5:30 p.m. to about 8:30 p.m., at the Oakdale Saddle Club Rodeo Grounds clubhouse. Attendees can stay after eating to socialize. All donations at the dessert table at the monthly dinner go to purchase wreaths for Wreaths Across America. The local VFW and Auxiliary’s goal is to have a wreath on every grave at the Santa Nella Veterans cemetery.
