The Aloft Art Gallery is a co-op Art Gallery featuring the art of 34 different local artists creating and selling paintings, pottery, photography, jewelry and fabric work. For the month of January, 2018, the Aloft Art Gallery features works by Joann Terry in the front window.
Terry started painting in oils as a member of “Art in the Park” in Oakdale in the 1960’s, and continued painting until taking time off to concentrate on building a business. After retiring she discovered her love for watercolors.
She has won numerous awards over the years and many of her paintings hang in private collections. Primarily self-taught, she has participated in workshops with Tony Couch, Dale Laitinen, Al Sabin, Jill Figler and Kathleen Davids, as well as workshops in Texas, Idaho and Nevada.
She is a member of the Mother Lode Art Association and Oak Valley Art Society, and a former member of associations in Idaho, Texas and Nevada.
“I continue learning from others while finding my own voice. I try to establish an interpretation of my feelings for a subject while measuring my paintings by how they move beyond their surface appearance,” said Terry.
The Aloft Art Gallery is at 167 S. Washington St., Sonora, and is open Wednesdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
