Oakdale Airport will welcome in the community for its Open House, being offered this Saturday, Oct. 8 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the airport, 8191 Laughlin Road. The event is designed to bring the community a full day of family fun with a variety of festivities including the Wings of Rescue fundraiser and pet adoption event and free Young Eagles flights for the youth.

Pet lovers can make their way to the big hangar on Saturday to witness the Wings of Rescue takeoff at 10 a.m. on a journey to find a few four legged friends their new forever homes. The rescue organization flies all over the country rescuing pets that are at shelters and finds them homes. They have been working with the Oakdale Shelter Pet Alliance (OSPA) and the Oakdale Animal Shelter for the past several months and have recently picked up another seven dogs from the shelter.

Wings of Rescue has already saved over 19,000 dogs and cats and is on track to rescue 7,000 more by the end of 2016. Wings Of Rescue is a 501c3 charitable organization.

Youngsters between the ages of 8 to 17 can experience a free flight hosted by EAA (Experimental Aircraft Association) Chapter 90 for daring Young Eagles. The Young Eagles program has delivered over 2 million free rides nationwide through the years. Kids that would like to participate will need to have a parent present and proper consent forms will need to be signed in order to fly high in the sky in the free airplane rides at the event on Saturday.

For kids under 8 years old there will be grounded kiddie plane rides available for their enjoyment.

Airport tenant Sierra West Airlines will be offering donuts, dessert and games for kids along with the unique Airplane and Classic Car show featuring a very rare BT-13 World War II aircraft and many others. The Crosswinds RV formation team will also be making an appearance at the event.

Sierra West has partnered with the OSPA and the Oakdale Animal Shelter to help our local animals.

This family friendly event is sponsored by the City of Oakdale, Oakdale Airport, AdHoc Committee and Oakdale EAA Chapter 90.
